Job description: As a café manager, you are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the café, ensuring that it runs smoothly and efficiently. Your duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Staff Management: Hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising café staff, including baristas, servers, and kitchen staff. Setting performance expectations, providing feedback, and addressing any performance issues.
Customer Service: Ensuring exceptional customer service by maintaining a welcoming and friendly environment, resolving customer complaints, and addressing customer needs and inquiries in a prompt and professional manner.
Operations Management: Managing inventory, including ordering and receiving supplies, tracking and managing food and beverage costs, monitoring equipment maintenance and repairs, and overseeing cleanliness and sanitation standards.
Menu Planning: Collaborating with the chef or kitchen staff to develop and update the café menu, ensuring it meets customer preferences, dietary restrictions, and seasonal availability of ingredients. Pricing and costing menu items appropriately.
Financial Management: Monitoring and managing café expenses, sales, and revenue, analyzing financial reports, and implementing strategies to increase profitability, such as cost control measures, upselling techniques, and promotions.
Compliance and Safety: Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and labor laws. Maintaining cleanliness and safety standards in the café, including proper food handling, storage, and disposal procedures.
Marketing and Promotion: Developing and implementing marketing strategies to attract and retain customers, such as creating promotions, managing social media accounts, coordinating events or special promotions, and collaborating with local businesses or organizations for partnerships.
Staff Training and Development: Providing ongoing training and development opportunities to café staff to enhance their skills, knowledge, and performance, including barista training, customer service training, and safety training.
Budgeting and Financial Reporting: Creating and managing budgets, tracking expenses, and preparing financial reports for senior management or stakeholders.
Business Development: Identifying opportunities for business growth, such as expanding the café’s offerings, exploring new markets, or implementing new strategies to increase revenue and profitability.
Overall Business Performance: Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and implementing strategies to achieve or exceed performance targets, such as sales goals, customer satisfaction ratings, and employee productivity.
Relationship Management: Building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, vendors, and other business partners to ensure timely and reliable delivery of goods and services.
Crisis Management: Handling unexpected situations or emergencies, such as equipment breakdowns, staffing issues, or customer complaints, in a calm and effective manner.
Compliance with Legal and Ethical Standards: Ensuring that the café operates in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards, such as labor laws, food safety regulations, and environmental regulations.
