Salary: £44,100 – 66,100 + Bonus+ Car + performance related bonus and a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | options available

SSE’s Distributed Energy team is currently intensifying its activity in the local authority market and within this the West Yorkshire region is a particular focus. We are targeting rapid growth in this part of the business founded on a “whole system thinking” approach to decarbonisation with the development of solar, heat, EV assets and private network adoption at the heart of our solution. For further differentiation and value add, we are also aiming to integrate smart local energy systems and IoT technologies. Consequently, you will have a broad understanding of Distributed Energy solutions and the value that can be achieved from local energy systems.

The Business Development Manager will be a key role employed to drive forwards our business relationships and solutions within West Yorkshire. Hence you will have a good network of board level contacts across both the public and private sectors in West Yorkshire as well as the potential partners and supply chain that SSE could work with. You will also need to have experience of structuring and closing power and/or heat purchase agreements, having worked for an investor/operator of distributed energy assets.

Candidates will hold responsibility for generating a robust pipeline and executing sales. As such delivering against an annual target based on project progression and contract value will be a key measure of success as will our relationships and the insight developed with the region.

This exciting role is a genuine opportunity to position SSE as a provider of choice to address carbon reduction and energy sustainability targets in the region. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities, managing client and wider stakeholder relationships and closing deals, supporting bid and development teams to secure contracts and partnerships with targeted organisations.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Proven track record in the energy sector and recent experience of operating in the region – with evidence of building and closing a robust pipeline.
  • Proven experience securing business with solar, private network, heat and/or local energy systems into the local authority and private sector markets. Essentially you will have closed power purchase or heat purchase agreements and understand the investor/operator model that is deployed in the distributed energy market.
  • Expert at creating and driving client engagement plans and influencing at a senior level towards a desired outcome.
  • Highly experienced networker and relationship manager – connected and able to build and manage diverse relationships with a wide group of stakeholders from C-suite and through the organisation.
  • Politically aware and can demonstrate influencing a stakeholder group including elected members and officials and being an active voice in associated organisations and industry groups.
