Job description: Renewable hydrogen (produced from water electrolysis) is central to ENGIE’s strategy driven by decarbonization, decentralization and digitalization. We develop solutions for industrials (using hydrogen in their processes) and territories looking for carbon-free solutions (H2 as a fuel for mobility, flexibility solutions for the local energy system…).
H2 Technology and Design Team is integrated in Flexible Generation and Retail Global Business Unit (FGBU) of ENGIE.
This centralized team is providing expertise and technical support to large scale renewable hydrogen projects developed worldwide i.e. 3 regions: Europe, Americas and AMEA (Asia-Middle East-Africa)
– a young and lean team, activating very large external & internal networks of people and competencies on many geographies around the world,
– multi-localized with people based closed to the fields of actions ; we have already developed a portfolio of projects in various countries such as Chile, South Africa, Australia, Netherlands, France

You will essentially play 2 roles:
1. Renewable H2 Architect
- Purpose : Drive the Architecture of complex green hydrogen-based systems, worldwide
- Accountabilities :
o Initiate and animate the econometric exercise using mathematical modelling tools to architect complex large-scale hydrogen and power-to-X systems
o Specifically support Business Development during the inception phase of a project for defining and refining the whole system architecture as well as the main technical/economics metrics (Sizing, Levelized Cost of Hydrogen/ LCOX…). Convincingly present these to the project external partners.
o Interact with the specialists of the engineering (Tractebel, T&D specialists or others), R&D and our teams during the inception and feasibility phases of a project to further develop and consolidate the overall system architecture (including market dimension). Supervise the activities of the Engineering working directly with Business Development (BD) to orient the architecture towards effectively addressing client´s needs.
o Architect solutions to solve challenges faced by project team during project initiation (concept screening during Pre-Feasibility Study, system sizing, …) at systemic level (Energy sourcing, EMS, power sizing, operating modes, storage, dispatching, integration with end users…).
o Interact, with the support of the H2 and Power-to-X technology specialists and/or R&D centers, with OEMs of the H2 and H2 derivatives value chain to adequately capture the specifics of their technology for consideration in value chain models
o Intervene in the technical due diligences of existing projects, reviewing architecture and underlying assumptions and raising risks and mitigating measures in their respect
o Review and validate performance models of Hydrogen systems and interactions with lenders engineer on technical functionalities of these models.
o Be a technical ambassador of Renewable H2 towards the customer and the external world, bringing clarity as to system consistency and compliant to business needs
o Ensure transversal sharing of REX and good practices between the projects during the early phases, worldwide.
2. Tools & Methods Manager
Purpose : Foster the creation and continued improvement of qualitative tools and methods
- Accountabilities :
o Develop, Structure, streamline and manage all technical-economical modelling techniques (assumptions, tools, modeling and costing methods, reports, …)
o Apply a pragmatic approach focus on value creation, balancing timing-quality-cost&benefit, to generate a buy-in from the involved stakeholders.
o Animate multi- initiatives on renewable H2 and derivatives to strengthen sharing processes, build on expertise from and share progress with regions of FGBU and other from Engie.
o Actively interact with internal and external stakeholders to understand their activities, needs and expectations, and identify needs for improvements regarding Tools and Methods
o Propose and drafts processes and procedures to ensure quality, replicability and efficiency of Design and System Integration activities
o Issue pedagogic material internal and external to the Group to enable dissemination of technical content for less to non-technical stakeholders.
About you / background :
o you hold an advanced degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences, or a related field.
o You have at least 15 years of professional experience and at least 10 years in modelling energy systems, including familiarity with econometrics and its application to industrial manufacturing.
o You have a deep understanding of the overall energy landscape, supply/demand equilibrium, and market structures. A previous exposure to the hydrogen and/or e-fuels market is a valuable plus.
o You are be able to demonstrate the ability to understand and challenge economic analyses, business strategies, and business models.
o You have a proven experience of programming languages, of mathematical programming techniques and of developing and using energy systems models.
o You are rigorous, flexible, perseverant, problem solver and highly motivated
o You are a real doer, good at planning, concurrent assignments; and you are an excellent organizer, even in unexpected and multitasking circumstances
o You are a fluent English; another language would be a plus.
