Hays Technology are working in partnership with Birmingham City Council to recruit a portfolio delivery manager, leading the realisation of desired outcomes across a range of programmes and projects in the Digital and Technology Service on a permanent basis.

Job purpose

This is an exciting opportunity for a strategically-minded agile delivery professional to join a large, dynamic, collaborative delivery team that is passionate about delivering user-focused, sustainable change. You will be accountable for the delivery of a wide range of user-centred products and services delivered by multi-disciplinary teams using a combination of agile and traditional methodologies. Through optimising the selection, prioritisation and delivery of features, products and services, you will maximise the value achieved from investments in our services.

We now need a strong delivery lead who is able to support and coach delivery teams to adopt and maintain agile practices and mindset.

Key attributes for this role are:

  • Educated to bachelor’s degree level, or equivalent experience, with evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Certified portfolio or programme practitioner or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a Senior IT Portfolio Delivery role.
  • Significant knowledge of IT portfolio, programme, project management and product delivery.
  • Extensive knowledge of the application of best practice portfolio management techniques, principles, standards, policies, practices, and methodology.
  • Significant knowledge of agile delivery practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of portfolio, programme, and project financial management.
  • Significant knowledge of public sector procurement and supplier engagement at a portfolio level.
  • Knowledge of modern technology standards.
  • Delivery practitioner qualification is highly desirable.

Recruitment process

An initial interview will take place for this role using Microsoft Teams on 11th or 12th April 2023, followed by an in-person half-day event on 18th April 2023, where you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills and experience and meet the team.
