About digital and technology services at Birmingham City Council
This is a really exciting time to be joining the Digital and Technology Services team of Birmingham City Council, Europe’s largest local authority. With unprecedented investment in people and digital, a solid strategy, empowering leadership and a newly redesigned service to get behind, we are building digital services centred on the needs of our citizens, business and communities that will deliver on Birmingham’s bold ambitions for the city of today and tomorrow.
We are a multidisciplinary team at the heart of transforming public services for the UK’s second largest city. We create, develop, deliver and operate an exceptionally diverse range of services that have a direct impact on improving the lives of 1.2m residents every day.
We are embracing and promoting a truly digital, human centred approach for the whole organisation, underpinned by collaboration, openness and innovation. We take advantage of unparalleled access to data, doing things at scale and new ways of using technology as an enabler to re-imagine the way services are delivered and build the digital council of the future.
This is an exciting opportunity for a strategically-minded agile delivery professional to join a large, dynamic, collaborative delivery team that is passionate about delivering user-focused, sustainable change. You will be accountable for the delivery of a wide range of user-centred products and services delivered by multi-disciplinary teams using a combination of agile and traditional methodologies. Through optimising the selection, prioritisation and delivery of features, products and services, you will maximise the value achieved from investments in our services.
Birmingham is ramping up its digital aspirations and capability very fast. Shifting our people’s mindsets and approach from traditional to agile is key to us fulfilling our potential. By investing in a capability and culture function and a user-centred product function, this work is accelerating. We now need a strong delivery lead who is able to support and coach delivery teams to adopt and maintain agile practices and mindset.
The reward for applying your skills in this way? The satisfaction and recognition that goes with shaping and delivering high profile services and products (like our award-nominated Birmingham Guardian app) that make a real difference to citizens, businesses and staff. Birmingham’s scale makes this one of the biggest and most exciting roles of its kind in local government and you can expect a level of responsibility and professional development to match their ambition to be a best-in-class digital service.
